"Be who you are!" is the headline of GEO WISSEN EXTRA and is aimed at everyone who wants to learn more about sexual diversity and identity. Even though queer life has arrived in mainstream society, there are still many people who have many questions about it. For example: What does trans* mean? What is the difference between gender identity and sexuality? Where can I find advice if I have been a victim of discrimination? This extra issue of GEO WISSEN is intended to help journalists find answers and start a conversation.

Daniel Nagel, CEO ohhh! foundation e. V.: "Our concern is education - and we create this in schools with workshops, on the Internet and social media with FAQYOU.de and now also in printed form together with GEO. Our goal is to support young people to stand up for themselves and to shape an open and informed cooperation. Because prejudices and fears of contact usually arise from ignorance – we solve that through our work.”

A communication consultant gives tips on how a dialogue about intimate topics can be successful; a dossier explains the most important terms related to LGBTQI+; a report shows how difficult it still is in Germany for a homosexual couple to start a family; a social psychologist explains what it takes to achieve a life of diversity and equality for all. And last but not least, a number of queer people talk about how it feels to be different from the majority - and what freedom means to them.

Bertram Weiß and Sebastian Witte, GEO magazine editors: “On the one hand, we live in a time when queer influencers* reach millions of people, trans* people are moving into the Bundestag, rainbow families are welcome in church communities, and gay and lesbian dating shows are winning television awards. On the other hand, people still experience rejection and even legal discrimination today because they love and feel differently than the majority. Our magazine aims to help close the many knowledge gaps on the subject of sexual diversity and identity.”

The magazine is a contribution by the GEO editorial team to RTL Germany's Diversity Week, which takes place from June 20th to 26th. takes place. For the production, GEO WISSEN teamed up with the ohhh! foundation. For many years, the team has been committed to educating people about love, sex and gender - for example in schools funded by the Federal Ministry of Health or with the educational service FAQYOU.de.

GEO WISSEN EXTRA is published once a year. The magazine has 134 pages and costs 6 euros.
